Counselling can offer a space to slow down, especially in a society that can feel so fast-paced. Taking our time can help us make sense of what you're experiencing and explore things that may feel too difficult to face alone.
I work collaboratively and relationally, taking the time to understand you as an individual rather than assuming that one approach will work for everyone. Together, we can explore your experiences at a pace that feels right for you, developing a deeper understanding of yourself and what you may need.
People come to counselling for many different reasons, whether you're struggling with something specific or whether you feel that things aren't quite right. I can offer support with a range of difficulties, including:
Anxiety and stress
Low mood and depression
Emotional regulation and overwhelming emotions
Anger
Self-esteem
Relationship difficulties
Self-harm
Suicidal thoughts
Life changes and transitions
Other difficulties that may be affecting your wellbeing
How I work with you
I believe the relationship between counsellor and client is an important part of the work. I'll take time to get to know you and understand how you experience the world, rather than rushing to decide what needs to change.
I won't tell you what you should or shouldn't do, or try to rescue you from difficult emotions. Instead, we'll work together to understand your experiences, explore what may be underneath them and consider different ways of responding.
I draw on different therapeutic approaches, including Person-Centred, Psychodynamic, Gestalt and CBT, adapting our work to you rather than expecting you to fit a particular approach.
We'll work at a pace that feels manageable, with the aim of developing greater understanding, self-compassion and confidence in your own ability to navigate life's challenges.
Taking the first step
Taking the first step towards counselling can feel daunting, and you may not be sure what to expect.
I offer a free 20-minute telephone call before your first session. This gives us an opportunity to briefly talk about what has brought you to counselling, answer any initial questions and see whether we might be a good fit.
If we decide to work together, sessions last 50 minutes. There's no pressure to make a decision during the initial call.
